Canterbury Newsletter, September 2023

Welcome to the Canterbury Newsletter for September!

The next Canterbury HOA Meeting will be held in the clubhouse on Monday, October 16, at 6:30 pm. We would love to see everyone there. This is your best opportunity to voice any concerns and learn about what your HOA board is currently focusing on. It is also a great way to meet your neighbors.

Your current HOA board members are: Susan Brandt, President; Bob Kincaid, Treasurer; David Swann, Secretary; Nancie Bair, Member-at-Large; Scott Greenwalt, Member-at-Large; Dorothy McDonald, Member-at-Large; Cynthia Reifeis, Member-at-Large; and Susie Waltz, Member-at-Large.

We were pleased to welcome Cynthia Reifeis to the board in September; she was appointed for the remainder of 2023.

Fall has encompassed us and soon we will have to ‘Fall Back’ and gain an extra hour of sleep. Daylight savings time ends at 2 am on November 5, 2023. Please remember to set your clocks!

Thanks are in order to residents and owners who donated their time and effort to save money for Canterbury during the summer:

  • Several residents and owners assisted with working on some costly landscaping projects this summer. These included the trimming and pulling out of dead shrubs throughout the complex, pulling down vines that were growing and attaching themselves onto the buildings, and pulling weeds in the pool area. Costs saved were $3,665. A thank you to those who helped: Susan Brandt, Bob Kincaid, Aimee Greenwalt, Connie Drury, and Nancie Bair!

These voluntary actions are important to us. As those of you who attend the monthly meetings know, Canterbury has limited funds. Any money saved by volunteers helps all of us. However, any volunteer work must first be approved by the HOA board for reasons of safety and liability according to Canterbury’s by-laws.

With the autumn season comes the wonderful taste of pumpkin! Some restaurants have already begun serving from their fall menus. As we mentioned last month, Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts are within walking distance of Canterbury. Dunkin’ has begun serving their Pumpkin Spice Signature Latte, Natty Pumpkin Coffee, and the Pumpkin Bakery Line-Up. Starbucks is already offering their Pumpkin Spiced Latte and two new drinks: Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte, and Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso (no pumpkin but still for fall). And at their location just a short drive away at 91st and Meridian, Dairy Queen is already selling their wonderful Pumpkin Blizzards.

Did You Know?

We have four laundry rooms for use by Canterbury residents. These are located next to 1129 Canterbury Court, 1142 Canterbury Court, 1120 Canterbury Court, and in the east basement under 8512 Canterbury Sq E. A key is needed to gain access to these rooms. If you need one, please contact our KMC Property Manager, Kevan Carriger. There is a $10 fee for each key.

Our clubhouse is available for rental. If you are interested in doing this, you should first call Yolanda Cardenas of KMC Property Management at 317-570-4358; she will confirm that your preferred date is available. Yolanda can provide you with all necessary information. A Clubhouse Agreement must be completed and signed prior to the rental. You will also receive the rules that must be adhered to. The rental fee itself is $50. However, you will be asked to submit a separate check in the amount of $100 as a security deposit. This separate $100 check will be returned to you (voided) once the clubhouse has been inspected to ensure that all rules have been followed, including cleanup of all trash. It is important to note that the pool is not included with the rental of the clubhouse and that the fire capacity is 60 people. If you need more information before calling Yolanda, please refer to our Community Handbook.

Please Remember

We are sad to have to say again that many residents have still been observed driving through Canterbury much too fast. The posted speed limit throughout the community is 15 mph. Please observe this so that all of us, including our children, our seniors, and our pets, will stay safe. Everyone will appreciate it. Just please slow down.

We are a community of dog lovers, and residents can often be seen walking our four-footed friends. There are doggie stations located at the southeast corner behind the clubhouse and at the southwest end of the center courtyard. These stations contain bags, in case you aren’t carrying your own, and a place to deposit used bags after cleaning up after your dog. Please always do clean up your pet’s mess; no one likes to step in “it.”

Everyone enjoy September as we begin to merge into fall. We will see you again in October.
